There is a widespread belief that maintaining a factory warranty requires dealer servicing. It does not. Federal law is explicit that a manufacturer cannot condition your warranty on having work done at a dealership, provided the specified service is performed correctly, with appropriate parts, and documented. What matters is that the right work happens at the right interval and that there is a record proving it. We follow the published schedule for your vehicle, use parts that meet the specification, and keep the documentation — which also adds to the car's value when you sell it.
What the schedule is actually made of
Most manufacturer schedules combine a few recurring items on different clocks. Oil and filter on the shortest cycle. Tire rotation and brake inspection alongside it. Cabin and engine air filters on their own intervals. Then the larger milestone services where transmission fluid, coolant, brake fluid, spark plugs and drive belts come due. Those larger ones are where money is genuinely saved or lost — transmission fluid being the clearest example, where replacing it on schedule is a modest cost and skipping it is among the more effective ways to shorten a transmission's life.
Normal versus severe service is the decision most people get wrong
Schedules generally publish two columns, and almost everyone assumes the normal one applies to them. Severe service typically covers stop-and-go traffic, frequent short trips, sustained heat, dusty conditions and towing — a description that fits a great many ordinary commutes in this region. Fluids degrade faster under heat and filters load faster in dust, so the intervals genuinely differ.
